Spend a day by the shore at the annual Bathtub Boat Race, or take in a scenic tour by boat or float plane, fish, snorkel, dive, kayak, sail, swim, beach comb, rock climb, or golf. Also available are water taxi services to any of the three nearby islands: Protection Island, Newcastle Island, and Gabriola Island.
Nanaimo is easily accessed by road from Vancouver Island, by air from Vancouver International Airport and by float plane from Vancouver Harbour. A choice of ferries from just north (Horseshoe Bay) or just south (Tsawwassen) of Vancouver allows delegates to avoid downtown congestion and arrive in Nanaimo after a short 80-120 minute ferry ride. Shuttle services between all incoming airports, seaports, and BC Ferries terminals are available to and from Nanaimo.
